Well, I have to admit, I have had a wonderful time off. Being home with the family, my birthday, blogger meetup. It doesn’t get much better than that. Well, how about one more snow day!!!!! Brrrr! it is freezing. I’ve never been so glad to have gas heat!!!
While I am sitting here all snug, I wanted to share with my blogger buddies a quick lesson and freebie that we did before we got out for winter break. We did a quick review unit on compound words. My kids are doing great with this, but since I have 2 in my room that have not mastered this yet, I will keep going over this throughout the year as a review and extra practice for my 2 nonmastered students.
I saw this idea on pinterest and we just had to do it. It seems like when you combined any lesson with food, it seems to help it click. So we made these cute Compound Word Cupcakes.
Aren’t these adorable.
These were so easy to make and the kids had such a great time. These were made from sheets of scrap paper that I had at the house from my neglected scrapbook that I haven’t touched in years. Shutterfly makes it too easy these days. White tissue paper and cut up pieces of construction paper for the sprinkles and cherry. All they did was decorate their cupcake with compound words that they wrote on their sprinkles. And of course, we had to have cupcakes for snack.
I also placed this compound word cut-n-paste in one of our learning centers. A freebie for our friends!!
I also found this fun game compound word game and we have been playing it this week and kids just love it. We have been playing it in our computer centers. I has different levels inside the game from easy to hard. I liked how it also progressed for the higher level thinking students.
